Latest PSC Coronavirus Information – Updated 24 March 2020

24th March 2020

On Sunday the Priory Sailing Club Committee agreed that we should postpone all organised club activity and that we should cease to allow access to the clubhouse in order that we might adhere to the social distancing guidelines in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus. In the light of yesterday’s announcement we have further decided to interrupt all activity on our lake whilst the current restrictions of movement are in place, i.e. at least the next three weeks. This means that even boat owning members who sometimes sail independently should no longer take to the water.

Throughout our many discussions recently we have explored ways that the club might provide opportunities for safe and responsible activity as a service to our members to aid their wellbeing. Hopefully the time will come when we can do this, but right now we feel that the ‘stay at home’ message is vital and this informed our decision to suspend all activity on the lake.

We will continue to act on advice, and please be assured that as soon as we can, we will once again facilitate sailing activity for PSC members.

You may know that several of our PSC members are part of our NHS and I would like, on behalf of all PSC members, thank them for all of the hard work that they are doing and to wish them all well. To misquote a phrase popular on social media at the moment – ‘You stay there for us, we are saying at home, and off the water, for you’!

We are currently exploring ways to provide some on line club activity – a live quiz and some virtual racing are possibilities. Watch this space.

In these tough times let’s hope we all can get back on the water together soon, it may take a while, but the lake will still be there, and when the sun shines and the wind blows PSC will once again be the place to be – and of course we’ll have a BIG party!

Very best wishes to all.
