Priory Sailing Club Open Days

Priory Sailing Club runs Open Days and ‘Come and Try’ events to give everyone in our community an opportunity to ‘Discover Sailing’.

Everyone is welcome, we are a not for profit Community Sports Club so do come and try your hand at a watersport at Priory.

Details of the courses that we run for children and adults will be available, as will details of our club membership. You do not need to own a boat to sail at Priory Sailing Club!

This year our Open Day is on Sunday 19th May.

There is no need to book in advance for the Open Day just come to the club where you will receive a welcome from our volunteer club members. The sessions start at 10.00 am and the last session finishes at 4.00pm – come at a time that suits you – we tend to be less busy in the morning.
There will be opportunities to try several activities –

  • Dinghy Sailing : One of our experienced sailors will take you and your family for a sail around our lake – they will give you the chance to control the boat – under their supervision! It’s unlikely that you will fall in the water during this session – but not completely impossible. You will of course be provided with a buoyancy aid just in case. You are likely to get your feet wet! The session will last for half an hour.
  • Windsurfing : If you are feeling slightly more adventurous then perhaps you would like to try this exciting branch of our sport. We’ll provide a wetsuit, the obligatory buoyancy aid and some instruction on a land based simulator before you take to the water to try sailing standing up. Even with the coaching from our expert instructors it is likely that you will fall in! These sessions will last for an hour.
  • Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) : Whilst we are a sailing club we do have some SUPs that our members use and you are welcome to try this watersport under the supervision of qualified instructors. The session will last for half an hour.

There are no upper, or lower age limits, for the dinghy sailing sessions, but you do have to be at least seven to try windsurfing and ten to try a SUP.
